Edit includes the removal of all sequences that were not depicted in the book, scenes that were added as 'padding' for the movie...these include the 'love story' scenes between the soldier and Sally, his girlfriend, the 'bathroom scene' between Mrs. Carmody and Amanda, Sally's bug sting death, the MP in the pharmacy, the soldiers exposition sequence and subsequent 'thrown out into the mist after being stabbed' scene, and more. Severa; 'deleted scenes' are now restored to the story, as they were based on sequences in the book, plus there is an entirely different ambiguous ending to the film.
