The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers - The Purist Edit
Project Summary
The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers: The Purist Edit was the second publicly available reedit of a major film.
The edit apparently gave momentum to the whole fanediting movement that was made possible by advances in consumer computer technology.
The edit was finished on March 1, 2003.
Release Date

The edit removes most obvious flaws in the PJ's version of the LOTR story. Among them are:
1. Osgiliath "detour" - not true to Faramir's character, with his Numenorian spirit.
2. Aragorn's fall - not respectful to Aragorn's character.
3. Arwen leaving - not true to Aragorn's and Arwen's love and characters. Not true to Elrond's character. Ignores the traditional view on Elf-human love (that goes back to Beren and Lutiel).
4. "Gimli the clown" - not true to Gimli's character. He is a prince, for Eru's sake.
5. Ent's indecision - not true to Ent's characters.
6. Theoden's "exorcism" - not true to the magic traditions of Tolkien's Middle-Earth. Not true to Gandalf's character (who is not a "conjurer of cheap tricks").
7. Elves at Helm's Deep - not true to the heroism of Rohan defenders. Not true to the strategic picture of the War.
Many of these changes by PJ were also done in a cheap populist way, targeted at the mass audience with its primitive taste.
The edit used the theatrical version (promo-DVD, the only available version at that time), it doesn't incorporate additional footage. Audio transitions were done properly to smooth the cuts. Music from the soundtrack and the trailers was used.
