The result is a film following Easy Company & Charlie Company through D-Day and the days following it.

Easy Company attacking Cerentan and the following battle

The intention was to remove all references to Private Ryan from the film, as he is not what this cut is about. But, when Charlie Company enter the French town, Captain Miller does say that they are looking for a Private Ryan to another soldier stationed there. This couldn't be removed without seriously damaging the resulting scenes, as without it being mentioned, no runner would need to be sent and with no runner being sent, it wouldn't have set up the sniper scene. So it is left in and can simply just be attributed to Charlie Company looking for a private at that point - no other significance to it.

There are no end credits, but Adagio for Strings plays out over the finale (Irwin's death (The Medic)), then over a few snippets of the graves, then the rest of Adagio for Strings (5 minutes worth) plays over a static black & white photo of the actual Omaha beach landing.
