In response to the discussion in the software status thread...

I might be old fashioned, but I've never liked sites that had a title hierarchy based on post count. It makes people post more than they normally would just to get to that next tier. A lot of you don't seem to have a problem with it, but there are certain people who abuse it. I can think of at least two people who do at the moment. I'm just glad that it stays confined to the Off Topic forum for the most part.

I don't have any say in this more than anyone else does, but I'd like to see it done away with. In it's place, why not allow people to give themselves any title they want, as Jay has suggested in this thread.

I'd say that is probably the only fair way for all of those involved, even if I am still vying for reclaiming my number 10 spot, I can see how it would be a clique thing and wouldn't present the best image possible for the new site.

Then again, we may all pass away or get arthritis before this new site is up, so all of this debate is pointless.
